Farmers Institute, March 1910, on Washington Street in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Though the street scene has changed considerably, Schroeder’s Department Store and St. John’s Lutheran Church are still running strong in 2012.
Our guest curator this week is Jeff Dawson, director of the Lester Public Library in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Using historic photos created by local resident Hubert R. Wentorf in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, combined with his own photography skills, Jeff has created a series of ‘then and now’ scenarios on the streets of Two Rivers. The ‘now’ photos were all taken on July 30, 2012.

Main Street, now known as 16th Street, in 2012 and in 1881, Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
How many of these buildings have survived the past 131 years?

Businesses on Washington Street, Two Rivers, Wisconsin, June 9, 1900 and July 30, 2012.
Amazing how little this scene has changed over the course of 112 years.

Our guest curator this week is Jeff Dawson, director of the Lester Public Library in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. In 2010, the library received a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant to digitize the Hubert R. Wentorf historic photograph collection. Utilizing this collection and his own photography skills, Jeff has created a series of ‘then and now’ scenarios. The ‘now’ photos were all taken on July 30, 2012.
This first image shows the Waverly Hotel under construction in 1893. Today the Waverly name is still used for this popular restaurant/bar.
