Recipe for Blarney Puffs published in the Milwaukee Sentinel, March 1979.
Need a way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? Try making some “Blarney Puffs!” I’m really not sure what’s specifically Irish about this recipe. Sounds a lot like Yorkshire pudding to me.

Thanksgiving display at Retzer Brothers grocery store, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1908.
The banner in the right-hand window advertises “Gold Medal Flour for Thanksgiving.” Albert and Barney Retzer opened their grocery store on National Avenue south of Mitchell Park in 1908 and served the neighborhood until 1955. 
This photo is a good example of how not to record information about historic photos—don’t write it in ink on the front of the original image!

Stein’s was a popular women’s clothing store in Oshkosh from 1924-1947. Operating from a rambling 60-room mansion in a residential neighborhood, the shop touted its elegant setting, ample parking, and four tea rooms.

“Meals will be prompt, and no gong sounded.”
This table d’hote (a.k.a. prix fixe or fixed price) menu from Milwaukee’s Newhall House features an extensive wine list. One of Wisconsin’s largest and grandest hotels, it stood for fewer than 30 years. The building burned in a dramatic fire in 1883.
